Types of interior paint, and which to choose

Interior paint isn't one product — it's a handful of different finishes, each suited to different rooms and levels of wear.

Matt

A smooth, non-reflective finish, well suited to ceilings and lower-traffic rooms like bedrooms and living rooms.

Durable Matt — our recommended

The flat, modern look of matt with far better scrubbability — products like Zinsser AllClean, Crown Clean Extreme and Dulux Diamond Matt.

Eggshell

A soft, low-sheen finish between matt and silk, well suited to walls in busier areas without going glossy.

Silk / Satin

A slight sheen that holds up well to cleaning — a common choice for hallways, kitchens and children's rooms.

Frequently asked questions

How long does interior painting take?

A single average bedroom typically takes 1–2 days including prep and two coats; a living room 2–3 days; a full property commonly 1–2 weeks depending on how much preparation is needed. We always give a clear, realistic timescale as part of your quote.

What is mist coating, and do I need it?

New plaster pulls moisture out of standard paint too quickly, which stops it curing properly. A mist coat — a diluted first coat — seals the plaster and gives the topcoats something stable to bond to. Where new plaster is involved, we always include it as standard preparation, not an optional extra.

How do I prepare my home before you arrive?

Remove small personal belongings, pictures and valuables where possible — larger furniture can be moved and protected with dust sheets before work begins. We protect flooring, worktops and fixtures, and use dustless sanding equipment to keep your home clean throughout.

Can you help me choose the right colours?

Yes. We consider natural light, room orientation, ceiling height, flooring and how the space is used — and test samples on the wall, because colours can look very different under changing daylight and artificial lighting.

How often should interior walls be repainted?

Most interior walls benefit from repainting every five to seven years. Hallways, staircases and busy family areas often need it sooner; living rooms and guest bedrooms can last much longer, particularly with high-quality trade paints.
